- 4 thick slices bread (preferably day-old)
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Butter for cooking
- Maple syrup for serving
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt
- Dip each bread slice in the mixture, coating both sides
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat
- Cook bread slices until golden brown on both sides
- Dust with powdered sugar
- Serve with maple syrup and fresh berries if desired
Tips
- Use slightly stale bread for best results
- Don't soak the bread too long or it will fall apart
